“Even the Godfather loves it,” is the catchy tagline of Alfero Artisan Gelato. I assure you that once you have tried their gelato, you wouldn’t want to go back to eating ice cream.
The owner, Marco Alfero, from Turin, Italy, started his gelato business venture out of pure passion for gelato and left his job in the financial sector to pursue his dreams.
In my humble opinion, the authentic gelato are those that are being kept fully covered inside special tubs (pozzetto) or similar machines instead of those you usually see being displayed in plain view.
This is to keep the gelato free from air and light contamination to maintain the smooth, delicate taste and freshness of the product. I have tried a gelato that was displayed in full view with interesting props of nutella, wine bottles, etc, being placed on the gelato (no mention of specific brands), and the gelato tasted so lacklustre that I had to abandon it halfway.
Gelato Vs Ice Cream
Ice cream is made in large industrial batches and uses ingredients designed for lengthy storage whereas the authentic Italian gelato is produced fresh daily in relatively small quantities and is available in a wide variety of tempting flavors.
Alfero Gelato is made with 100% natural ingredients, without any artificial flavourings. The fresh ingredients are what make the gelato delicious, creamy and delectable.
Due to its lower fat content, lower quantity of incorporated air and higher temperature that do NOT numb the sensitivity of your taste buds, gelato offers a greater flavour experience than ice cream.
Compared to ice cream which contained 18-30% fat, gelato has only 2-9% fat which makes it a delightful guilt-free indulgence.
Alfero Artisan Gelato Flavours
The staff had told us that sorbet would not taste so good on the waffles, so we tried two of their best-selling gelato with the waffle. I feel that the waffle could have fared better if it was more crispy on the exterior. I was told that customers would actually walk away if they happen to run out of Pistachio gelato, this was just how good their Pistachio gelato is.
For those who like more unique flavours, you can try the Gula Melaka gelato. The nice sounding Snow White gelato is actually milk gelato which they used as a base for most of their other gelato and tasted really smooth and milky as well. A new flavour will be introduced every month in order to satisfy the taste buds of the customers.
Overall, for such high quality gelato, I find the pricing very reasonable. I simply could not resist the rich, refined textures and fresh flavours of their gelato which is a pure bliss to indulge in. 🙂
