The removal of unwanted hair has come a long way since its treatment with conventional IPL (Intense Pulse Light) machines. The clinical grade IPL that can only be operated by medical doctors comes with higher intensity and feels like the flicking of elastic rubber band on the skin.
The IPLs used in beauty centres are of a lower grade and intensity and are a lot more comfortable without the strong burst of bright light.
The new generation IPL for hair removal in Beauty Hope also comes with a cold applicator which makes the entire process soothing and pain-free.
Personally, I have an in-grown hair problem which is really hard to eradicate at my underarms, otherwise, I do not have much of a hairy problem. Elicer explained that with IPL treatment, it can also help to target and remove the in-grown hairs.

Review of the New Meridian Electron Energy Device Treatment
IPL is a light based treatment (wavelength of between 640 and 1,200 nanometres) that emits a high energy and broad wavelength onto the skin and targets pigments for the purpose of hair removal.
Overtime, it will slow down hair growth significantly and the hair also grows back much thinner than before. At least 10 treatments are required to catch all the hairs in their living cycle to see visible results.
The IPL hair removal is suitable for the face, arms, legs, underarms and bikini line areas.
How does IPL works?
The light energy is absorbed by the pigments in the hair, causing it to shatter and be eliminated from the body through metabolism. The light energy quickly gets converted to heat energy which then destroy the hair follicles and hair shaft to prevent the growth of new hair.
The Limitations of IPL
As it can affect the pigment in your skin, IPL is more effective for people with fair skin and dark hair colour. Even laser treatments are not effective for all skin types and hair colour such as blonde, red, white or grey hair as the wavelength emitted is not targeted to zap such light hair.
Individuals who recently had a tan (including self-tanning machine) are not advisable to do any IPL or laser treatment as it can target the pigment in the skin and cause scarring.
Individuals who are pregnant or breast-feeding are also contraindicated for IPL treatments.
Before the IPL is conducted at my underarms area, the therapist shaved away the hair and applied a generous amount of gel at the area. She then covered my eyes with goggles and a towel as I told her my eyes are very sensitive to bright flashes of light.
As mentioned earlier, the IPL machine in Beauty Hope uses a cold applicator and no heat was felt throughout the whole procedure which lasted less than 10 minutes for both underarms. I rather like the cold and comfortable sensation during the IPL treatment.
Depending on the individual as well, people with coarser hair may experience a greater sensation during the treatment.
IPL hair removal is a convenient way for the modern women (for the modern men as well) to get rid of unsightly, unwanted hair so that we can always look our best on all occasions and it’s such a time saver!
Although Beauty Hope is unassuming and not huge as compared to other well established spas, I like it that the therapists in Beauty Hope are personable and friendly. Having been to many spas and medical clinics and having tried a myriad of treatments from IPLs, lasers, injectables, RF to slimming machines, I will definitely return to an establishment who cares for my well-being and not treat me as just another figure to meet sales target.
