On the day of our wedding, the gate crash, tea ceremony, photo-taking, solemnization, holy matrimony and lunch banquet all took place within the hotel premises and the groom need not fetch me to his house and back to mine for the ceremony/rituals, etc (which was usually the norm).
Even our videographer commented that ours was the simplest wedding he has ever done and hope to plan his wedding in a similar fashion too. The sisters and brothers arrived around 8 am and by 3 pm, the lunch banquet is over as I do not have a dinner banquet. I have heard of weddings that lasted from 3 am (to start preparation for the rituals) till 11 pm before the banquet is finally over and was glad that I could have a minimalist wedding and breathe easy.

Wedding favours and Wrist corsage
We made the mistake of not researching enough online before buying the wedding favours (bulk purchase) and hope that by sharing this place we found online, it will help others in their wedding planning. We bought our wedding favours at The Chinese Wedding Shop (conveniently located in Bedok Mall, AMK Hub, etc) at $2.25 apiece.
Later, when I was researching for wrist corsage online for my sisters, I found this place that sells exactly the same wedding favours for only $1.60 apiece! That is a total of $78 in savings! True, their showroom is not so accessible if you do not drive but the savings is substantial enough to cover the cab fare to and fro! I highly recommend WeddingFavours.Sg for wedding favours and other wedding items. Note that they only accept cash payment.

Bridal Affairs or Bridal Concept?
We went around hunting for the best deal as we did not get the actual day package from Bluebay Wedding. Read my previous post on Bluebay Wedding Taiwan. We went to Bridal Concept first as it is quite a well-known shop. The staff at Bridal Concept told us that they design some of their gowns in-house and their actual day package starts from $2888.
I tried on a few gowns but decided to look around a few more shops to compare prices and they actually tried to prevent us from leaving and slashed the price from $2888 to $1888 to $1300 and finally to $800. We thought if the price can be slashed so drastically, so too can the service and quality of the bridal package be compromised which is a risk we didn’t want to take. And we were quite right. My friend bought her pre-wedding photo-shoot and actual day package from Bridal Concept – all for under $3000 – and complained that the make-up artist did not accompany them for the outdoor photo-shoot. As a result, her husband had to help her change and a wardrobe malfunction occurred and they had no safety pins to cover the breach. It was rather embarrassing to carry on with the photo-shoot in that condition and no one to help touch up her hair and makeup in the windy outdoors. Thank goodness we didn’t choose Bridal Concept.
I did some online research and found Bridal Affairs. We analyzed that a package might not be suitable for us as we wanted a simple and minimalist wedding. Bridal Affairs is a good alternative as their 2-pc basic bridal package starts from $398 and you only top up if the gown you wanted is in another category and pay for any additional services required for the actual day wedding. So instead of opting for an all-in bridal package, we decided to choose Bridal Affairs for their modern, elegant gowns and good service.
We paid $1067 in total for:
- 1 white gown with rental of accessories
- 1 set of silver suit with vest and french tie for the groom
- 1 set of black suit for my dad
Our review of Bridal Affairs
We made an appointment and were surprised to find out that their “shop” is located in a HDB flat in Tampines. We were initially afraid that the gowns selection would be limited as compared to an actual shop but were proven wrong. Christin, the lady boss, informed us that they sourced their gowns from Europe, USA and Korea and had 1 new shipment yearly (in 2 batches). I loved their gowns for the style and modern look and a few signature pieces were Vera Wang inspired gowns with the ruffles and organza material I loved. At Bridal Affairs, they believe that you need to personally come down to try on the gowns for yourself to find the most suitable one.
For the first appointment (in the living room of the flat), Christin let me try 1 gown from each category – Basic, Classic, Premium, Super Premium and Elite – so that I have a fairly good idea of the kind of gown I like that can complement my figure. After we placed a deposit with Bridal Affairs, we made a second appointment and this time we tried the gowns in the room. I mentioned that I like ribbons and Christin set aside some gowns for me to try. After trying 8 gowns, I finally made my selection but I really can’t decide between 2 of them!
An after thought occurred to me that the staff should have advised me to try the gowns with the bridal shoes (they had a few in the room) instead of being barefooted. This is so that I can gauge the length of the gown in front and buy the bridal shoes of the right height so that I won’t tripped while walking down the aisle (otherwise I can imagine myself looking weird holding the can-can up on one hand and holding the bouquet in another hand while walking down the aisle). 🙂
Areas for Improvement
While I am generally quite happy and satisfied with the design and quality of the gowns in Bridal Affairs, I do have a lot to say about the quality of the men suits and ties. They let my dad chose a tie from a plastic bag of many ties all entwined together, needless to say my dad eventually bought his own tie outside, as the ties from the plastic bag were looking tired and worn out with some threads hanging out. But PLASTIC BAG? We thought that arranging the ties nicely in a glass cabinet would be more presentable and professional. The groom suits are also limited in choices.
Then the unthinkable happen when we were taking some photos at the hotel gardens before my solemnization and lunch banquet. The groom was sitting cross-legged on the grass patch when we heard the sound of a fabric tear. The groom’s pants were torn (the tear slowly got bigger and bigger) at the seams and it was so embarrassing for him to walk around talking to guests and go upstage for the solemnization. The jacket can only cover part of the tear. Apparently, the material is so thin and worn out by repeated use that it tears easily. Although we had made a complaint to the staff when we return the gown and suits, Christin did not contact us after the wedding.
Anyway, the most important thing is that the guests enjoyed themselves and we are happily married! After all, a wedding only lasts for a day but a marriage is for a lifetime.
