SkinLab The Medical Spa Review: Salicylic Acid Peel Facial Treatment for Acne

June 1, 2016

Before I did my medi-facial at SkinLab, I had a thorough consultation with Dr Kelvin Chua where he helped to correct my misconceptions and dispel some common myths about good skin care.

By analysing my skin, Dr Chua was also able to recommend the appropriate medi-facial to suit my skin type and address my concerns.

Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatment reviewThe Salicylic Acid Peel Facial is the new generation facial treatment and exfoliator to improve the appearance of the skin and can be used more frequently than the other peels without much risk for irritation.

As I have not done a Salicylic Acid peel facial before, he recommend that I start with a 20% concentration first for 3 mins.

At first I was worried that 20% was high but Dr Chua assured me that by controlling the duration of application, he was able to control the results and ensure that my face won’t peel or turn red and sensitive to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all their customers.

Skinlab the Medical SpaAs a normal skin cleansing routine may not be enough to keep your skin clear and bright due to the build-up of dead skin cells over time, incorporating a Salicylic Acid Peel Facial can help to exfoliate your skin and reveal a younger and healthier skin beneath.

The Salicylic Acid Peel Facial blends powerful exfoliation with skin soothing actions. It also has ultraviolet absorbing properties to protect the skin from damaging effects of the sun.

The Salicylic Acid Peel Facial can be used to treat the following skin problems:

  • Oily skin
  • Acne
  • Blackheads
  • Whiteheads
  • Fine lines
  • Premature ageing
  • Uneven skin tone

SkinLab’s Salicylic Peel Facial (90 mins) | $268

Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatment reviewAfter double cleansing, the therapist applied a 20% Salicylic Acid on my face. She switched on all the lights so that she could see whether there was any signs of redness and sensitivity clearly before washing off the Salicylic Acid.

However, if my skin could take the Salicylic Acid, she would leave it on my face slightly longer.

At the 3rd minute as predicted by Dr Chua, my skin started to turn red slightly and she helped me wash off the Salicylic Acid immediately.

The Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatment is highly effective for those suffering from acne and oily skin, as it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to reduce acne inflammation.

It gets rid of excess sebum, bacteria and inflammation deep within the pores and also fights fungus and yeast – one of the root causes of acne.

The therapist gave me a mirror to observe my skin after the Salicylic Acid Peel and I was surprised to see whiteheads and blackheads popping out on my face which wasn’t even there earlier.

She explained that the Salicylic Acid is oil-soluble so it can penetrate sebum filled follicles to help unclog pores, deep cleansing, lifting out of blackheads, even out skin tone and prevent future outbreaks.

Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatment for acne reviewIt is also easier to do an extraction after the Salicylic Acid Peel as all the whiteheads and blackheads had emerged!

She did an extraction and skilfully trim my eyebrows. A pair of nice brows always makes me feel more confident and well-groomed!

The therapist gently placed a cotton pad soaked with Rosewater to calm and sooth the skin after extraction, followed by an ampoule to penetrate the skin to soothe and hydrate the skin.

The therapist then used an aromatic massage cream to give me an invigorating massage to my face and shoulders which helps to stimulate collagen production. I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated after the shoulder massage!

Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatment reviewLastly, she applied a Strawberry and Mint mask on my face to control oil production and to deeply hydrate and soothe the skin and it felt so cooling and comfortable on my face.

Review

Salicylic acid peel facial reviewThat night when I went home, I did observe some slight redness on my face but by the next morning, all the redness and sensitivity had subsided and I noticed an improve clarity and skin texture.

Although the therapist did tell me that some people may experience mild breakouts after this treatment due to deep cleansing within the pores, but I did not experience this (thankfully).

Some of you may wondered why I did the Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatment when I obviously do not suffer from acne at all but this is where Dr Chua’s consultation comes in as he told me that I have a combination skin with oily T-zone due to the higher amount of oil glands there.

Salicylic Acid Peel Facial treatmentI always felt I have dry skin because it does feel dry at most parts of my face especially when I travel to cold countries, my skin will peel and crack up.

However, Dr Chua was very patient in explaining to me that a true blue dry skin person will have very little oil production under normal circumstances, which I am not as he noticed my shiny forehead the moment I stepped into his room. 🙂

Thank you Dr Chua and SkinLab for your detailed consultation and for taking good care of my skin! 🙂

This is so interesting to me. I’ve had problems with oily skin and acne … but only after I got pregnant for the first time (never even had a pimple in high school!). Was this painful at all?

It is not at all painful and there wasn’t any stinging sensation even… 🙂
