To coincide with the Great Singapore Sale (GSS), Street 50 Restaurant & Bar at Bay Hotel is presenting our favourite local street food in degustation small plates, aptly called the Great Singapore Savour, from 3 June till 14 Aug 2016.
With a new head chef (previously from Sofitel Hotel) conceptualizing all the new dishes, Street 50 Restaurant & Bar is pulling out all the stops to delight us with local favourites served with a twist in palatable small plates for sharing and priced affordably from $7.90 to $12.90 (ala carte).
Having tasted the new Great Singapore Savour all-day dining menu, the dishes are sure to delight any Zi Char and Salted Egg Yolk lovers which is all the craze here right now!
Coffee Wings | $7.90
Coffee pork ribs are a common fixture in local Zi Char stalls but this coffee wings was coated with the Chef’s homemade Hong Kong style coffee jam and deep-fried to a golden crisp. The coffee wings tasted a tad sweet and I would prefer the coffee flavour to be stronger.
Salted Egg Lava Chicken Breast | $9.90
Inspired by the Chicken Cordon Bleu, which is a dish of meat filled with cheese, then breaded and deep-fried, this tender chicken breast is infused with homemade salted egg yolk paste instead, which oozed out when it was cut piping hot.
Cereal Prawns with Wasabi Dressing | $9.90
This is another hot favourite at any Zi Char stall as anything cooked with cereal is definitely a crowd-pleaser! Although a tad salty for me at first bite, the cereal offers a nice contrasting texture to the soft, succulent prawns.
Soft Shell Crab with Salted Egg Dip | $7.90
To jump on the latest salted egg yolk craze, Street 50’s version of Soft Shell Crab comes with a Salted Egg cream dip, which was one of my favourite dish that evening and a must-try if you love soft shell crabs and salted egg yolk.
Shrimp & Eggplant Sambal | $8.90
XO Scallops & Prawns Fried Rice | $9.90
I used to stand by a bottle of XO scallops sauce in my fridge all the time as it makes all the dishes I cooked taste so delicious, so imagine my delight when I gently opened the thin egg skin to reveal the flavourful XO Scallop & Prawns Fried Rice, wok-fried to perfection, which really whets my appetite!
Curry Fish Head | $18.90
Assam Fish Head | $18.90
Both the Curry and Assam fish head are signature local classics of noteworthy mention here. Both are cooked with generous ingredients simmered in either Assam gravy or Indian curry to complement the tender fish meat. My personal favourite had to be the Assam Fish Head as I like the tangy assam gravy that excite my taste buds, whereas the curry one seems a little mild to me. I love the generous serving of lady fingers too! 🙂
Oyster Char Kway Teow | $12.90
Fried oysters (Or Luak) and Fried Kway Teow are my favourite local dishes. So how about marrying them in one dish and wok-fried the fresh oysters with flat noodles, Chinese wine, Kai Lan vegetables and mushroom in oyster sauce and voila! – here is a dish with distinctive local flavour you just had to savour.
The fresh Coconut Malibu (coconut ice cream with coconut flesh, topped with mixed fruits and served with fresh coconut juice) is the perfect dessert to cool down in this weather and makes a sweet ending to your meal. You can now enjoy a complimentary Coconut Malibu with a minimum spending of $50.
