An unpleasant incident happened to me a few weeks ago which caused a bad breakout on my face and increased skin sensitivity. I was trying to hail a cab by the roadside when a huge truck drove past me and threw up a huge storm of pollutants all over me. I saw the truck approaching but could not step backwards as there was an entire row of low-lying shrubs planted behind me.
My entire face was sprayed with black road tar and other road particles I could not even describe. I think people who has ridden on a motorcycle before will understand this. I used to ride pillion on my father’s motorcycle a long time ago (sadly he has passed away last year) and despite wearing a helmet and hiding behind my father, my entire face would still turn black.
After that incident, my skin became even more sensitive and drier than ever with breakouts on my forehead, chin and cheeks. It was really frustrating for me. Thankfully, I have the Dermagold Hydra Recovery Gel at home which I would be sharing more in this review.
Dermagold Hydra Recovery Gel | $48
Winner of SHAPE Suncare Awards 2015 and NuYou’s Choice Suncare Guide 2015, this award winning multi-functional suncare product is made from the freshly pressed juices of the aloe vera leaves known for its natural healing properties.
I love to put the product in the fridge so that the gel feels refreshing and soothing when I apply it on my skin. The Dermagold Hydra Recovery Gel is a fast-acting soothing treatment for sensitive and sun burnt skin to relieve redness and reduce the effects of sun damage on the skin.
It is also suitable for use on the skin post aesthetic treatment. An effective hydrator, this is the perfect beauty item to bring during travels to prevent your skin from drying especially during long haul flights or in cold and dry weather overseas.
We all know that it is useful to have aloe vera gel at home as they are an all-purpose healing gel that are great for emergencies like minor cuts and burns.
Designed to be a multi-functional product, you can also apply a thicker layer on the face once a week so that it acts as an overnight hydrating sleeping mask to boost the skin’s hydration, especially when most of us sleep in an air-conditioned room every night.
The Hydra Recovery Gel works wonder to reduce the redness and sensitivity of my breakouts but because I have very dry skin, my skin was still peeling on the nose tip and forehead when I use the product alone. I need to use an additional night cream or balm on top of the Hydra Recovery Gel for my perpetually dry skin. So I guess if you have oily/combination skin, this product will be just right for your skin type.
I used to apply my facial products very fast so that I can hit the sack faster. But these days, I practice mindfulness to enjoy my skincare routine slowly instead of just going through the motions. I find that when I massage the products onto my skin slowly, the relaxed pace releases tension from my body and allow the active ingredients to work for maximum benefits. I also sleep better as a result.
Let me know what you think after practicing mindfulness in your skincare routine….
