“Because every beauty has a maker”, says Taiwanese celebrity makeup artist Kevin Zhou and co-founder of BeautyMaker, a popular makeup brand especially conceptualised for Asian women.
His famous clients include Asian Hollywood celebrities like Maggie Q and Zhang Ziyi and to ensure that the products are suitable for sensitive Asian skin and climate, Kevin tests all the products he creates on his own skin before sending them for production.
Being familiar with the typical issues that affect our skin and how our lifestyles affect the way we apply makeup, Kevin created BeautyMaker to allow women to buy quality cosmetics that is also affordable at the same time.
Kevin Zhou, who is also widely known as Teacher Kevin on 女人我最大, a popular Taiwanese beauty programme on television that is already into its 16th year of running, was in town recently to introduce the launch of new BeautyMaker products and did a live makeup demonstration.
It was like watching an episode of the popular TV show live where beauty and makeup guru, Teacher Kevin, shared many beauty tips with the media who were present.
He explained that due to the hot and humid weather in Asia, makeup tends to oxidize after a few hours or become shinier and oilier on the skin, although not everyone has an oily skin type despite the swelter weather here. He added that people with freckles also tend to have drier skin.
BeautyMaker Long Keep Oil Free Primer | $19.90 (Newly launched & exclusive to Shopee)
Makeup primers are usually in cream, gel or powder formulas and tend to be dry and sticky, as such, he has formulated the liquid BeautyMaker Bye Bye Oil Primer to be applied before the foundation.
The peachy colour of the primer helps combat dull skin but glides on colourless on the skin and is suitable for all skin types.
It also provide SPF protection and does not clog pores or create a greasy layer on the skin which may darken your foundation shade.
The Bye Bye Oil Primer acts as a double layer – the inner layer in contact with your skin is moisturizing while the outer layer “catches” your foundation to make it long-lasting.
Matte Cushion | $19.95 (Shopee price)
Kevin applied the primer first and then the BeautyMaker Matte Cushion foundation with the Photoshop Brush on one side of the model’s face for comparison.
This foundation is suitable for the humid weather here and does not oxidize even after a few hours, keeping your makeup long-wearing and dewy fresh.
The unique formula provides instant pore coverage and even absorbs shine and controls excess oil.
Bye Bye Oil Compact Powder
Finally, he applied the Bye Bye Oil compact powder which is white and ultra-light in texture but it definitely does not make your face appear to be white like ghost.
The powder particles are really fine and has a beautiful mattifying effect when applied over the Matte Cushion foundation.
Kevin used a facial blotter on the model’s skin to show that the side with makeup on has no oil at all, whilst the side with no makeup has absorbed a lot of oil.
Photoshop Foundation Brush | $16.90 (Shopee Price)
I particularly like the BeautyMaker Photoshop Brush that can be used to apply blusher and foundation in cream, liquid and powder formulas and even works perfectly well with the Matte Cushion foundation.
By applying the foundation with the Photoshop Brush in an upwards motion, it creates a tightening effect, giving off a glossy and natural makeup finish.
Its bristles are also particularly soft but dense and does not leave streaks on your face like the other foundation brush I had previously.
Great News! The BeautyMaker Bye Bye Oil Primer as well as all BeautyMaker products are now available conveniently on Shopee Online and Mobile App and is also cheaper than getting them from the shops.
Simply use the promo code “KEVINxVET” to receive $7 off a minimum purchase of $15 for all new Shopee users till 31 April 2017.
Are these products available everywhere? As an Asian woman, finding products designed for our skin type can be difficult!
