The aesthetic and beauty industry is a booming multi-million dollar business due to the surge in demand but business was not always smooth sailing for Dr Benjamin Yim during the early years. Dr Benjamin Yim first started as a General Practitioner and had always dreamt of entering the aesthetic medicine practice. When he opened his first aesthetic clinic in 2000, he started his first venture supporting the distributors of Obagi line of skin care for their Retin A creams but due to financial and operations issues, the venture floundered.
But Dr Yim held on to his beliefs and vision and overcame his early struggles. His fortunes turned in 2001 when Dr Yim made a difficult call to invest in the first version of the Vasculite (an Intense Pulse Light system) despite its astronomical price as he recognised its vast potential and benefits for his patients. This IPL skin rejuvenation system could be used to treat pigmentation and remove unwanted hair and was featured in Her World Magazine that same year. Patients started streaming into his clinic and he had not looked back since.
Being a highly respected and experienced pioneer in the aesthetics industry with 15 years of practice experience, Dr Benjamin Yim is a well sought-after speaker at many aesthetic conferences around Asia and is the Honorary Secretary of the Society of Aesthetic Medicine, Singapore. Dr Yim specialises in botulinum toxin and fillers injectables and is also an appointed medical trainer for Botox administration (Allergan) and Juvederm (Allergan) skin filler administration.
Today, the treatments available at Dr Benjamin Yim Clinical Aesthetics & Laser Centre has expanded from only chemical peels to Botox, skin fillers, threadlifts, Vaser Liposelection and fractional resurfacing using the Mosaic Laser, among many other aesthetic treatments.
Dr Benjamin Yim envisions his clinic to be a platform for nurturing and grooming other younger aesthetic doctors, while continuing to provide only the best solutions for his patients.
Dr Yim shared and explained some case studies of his patients and showed their before and after photographs for comparison purposes. Due to privacy issues, I would not be able to show their photographs in this post.
The ‘triangle of youth’ is a commonly used term in aesthetics and refers to the widest point of the face. In a younger person, this is across the top of the cheeks, with the narrow point of the triangle at the chin whereas in an older person, the triangle is reversed with the widest part at the jaw line and the narrow point at the bridge of the nose due to the aging process which causes changes in the facial proportions. The reversal of the triangle of youth is due to a loss in volume in the cheeks as they lose their plumpness and sagging of skin, which creates jowls.
Dr Yim shared that as facial volume conveys youth, he could restore the triangle of youth by plumping up the cheeks with fillers and reversed the effects of sunken, hollow cheeks. By increasing volume to the cheeks with skin fillers, the naso-labial folds and marionette lines will also be automatically lifted and softened, avoiding the need for risky and expensive surgeries.
Dr Yim explained that every patient is unique in their own way and what he would do is to help devise a holistic and customised beauty solution to achieve overall facial harmony that is proportional to their features, thereby enhancing their natural beauty.
He said,” The best part of my job is to make people beautiful and happy and bring smiles to their faces. Most importantly, it is the friendships we build throughout this long journey with them that make us want to do better every day.”
Jane Iredale is a trusted brand of skin care makeup recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists throughout the world and is suitable for use after aesthetic procedures and surgeries (usually you are not allowed to apply any makeup for the next 24 hours after aesthetic treatments).
This is because Jane Iredale skin care makeup does not clog pores and does not contain talc, parabens, chemicals preservatives, FD&C dyes and irritants. Having tried the products on myself during the demonstration, the makeup not only glides on smoothly, provide adequate coverage, but also smells great with a fruity scent as Priscilla told me that some of the ingredients include Pomegranate, Honeysuckle and Calendula.
We had these delicious tarts from Bakeafuss to enjoy during the event too. I had a few of these irresistible lychee tarts with rose-centred fillings!
After the event, I had gained a greater understanding and insight about aesthetic treatments with Botox and skin fillers and how it could bring subtle enhancement and transformation to our faces to help us regain youthfulness and confidence!
I actually found myself observing and comparing the features of Caucasians and Asians on the streets with my new-found knowledge!
We took home with us these wonderful skin care products (Hydrating Cleanser, Sunscreen SPF 50, Hydrating Mask & Jane Iredale foundation) from Dr Benjamin Yim’s clinic after the event. Thank you for a very delightful and successful event and Happy 15th Anniversary Dr Yim! 🙂
