Although Singapore is an island city-state surrounded by the sea, many locals do not own yachts or have experienced a nautical lifestyle before. Ximula Sail was founded in June 2014 by a father-daughter team who wanted to inspire more Singaporeans to get out onto the waters, and celebrate important occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor/bachelorette parties, engagement proposals, team bonding retreats, corporate events and even have wedding photo shoots on board.
The spotlight was turned on sailing when the media interviewed TV celebrity couple, Darren Lim and Evelyn Tan, who lived onboard Gracefully with their 4 beautiful children, and homeschooled their kids while living on a boat permanently.
In June 2016, the Wong family onboard Ximula and Darren’s family onboard Gracefully went on a one-month sailing expedition trip to Koh Samui together and a business partnership was forged. Today, Gracefully is part of the Ximula Sail fleet and Darren juggles between his various roles as a skipper for Ximula Sail and acting, while developing educational programs, such as the Experiential Sailing Program, conducted on board Ximula yachts.
Recently, in celebration of International Happiness Day on 20 March, I went on board Gracefully with a group of friends and met Minqi and Darren who were the captains of our boat.
Each catamaran can accommodate about 18 people on board. To spread some love and happiness to the underprivileged community, 4 complimentary tickets will be given to a beneficiary family from the New Hope Community Services or a charity organization of your choice for every yacht charter booked in March and April!
I had an amazing time on board Gracefully as Minqi took really good care of us which makes us feel at home and even handed out sea-sick pills for those who needed them! The yacht was really clean and even had 3-bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with shower facilities to boot.
For the more adventurous ones, there were also plenty of water activities to do such as kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming. I had a fun time learning how to steer the boat as Darren was there to give us some hand-on lessons. When night falls, I sat on the deck gazing at the starlit sky with the wind caressing my face and felt really carefree and uplifted.
You can be a happy sailor too by becoming a Ximula member! After a long day at work, just chill out with Ximula Sail at their open sunset cruise to the Southern islands every Tuesdays and recharge for the week. This is to encourage Ximula members to sail more at an affordable rate and also to meet more new friends at the same time.
This June holidays, Darren Lim and his family will be hosting an exciting yacht stayover where you and your kids will be introduced to sailing, enjoy a night hike and star gazing at the Southern islands as well as an overnight stay on Gracefully!
