This Christmas, visit the flagship restaurant at Bay Hotel – Street 50 Restaurant & Bar – and be bedazzled by the specially curated festive offerings and seafood specialties. From 24 Dec to 2 Jan 2016, diners also stand double the chances to win a GOLDHEART Diamond Jewelry set worth over $2000!
The seafood-studded buffet was helmed by Executive Chef Ricky who artfully created the buffet spread with classic french culinary techniques to satisfy your taste buds and warm your bellies.
The buffet spread also include many other notable dishes that were not reviewed in this post such as the Symphony of Fresh Seafood, Langoustine Perfumed with Thai Pomelo Salsa, White Fungus & Bay Shrimp, Blue Mussels Bourguignon, Crayfish Printanier and many other delectable yuletide desserts, pralines and assorted Christmas log cakes.
Salmon Carpaccio with Coriander & Pine nut Vinaigrette
Smoked Oyster & Crab Cake
The succulent crab meat and smoked oyster crab cake with its crispy golden exterior was perfectly complemented by the spicy Sambal Papaya sauce. This is a must try dish and is the perennial crowd pleaser among all the diners.
Black Pepper Alaskan Crab Claw with Ginkgo Nuts
Chef Ricky introduced Asian inspired touches to the black pepper Alaskan crab claw by incorporating ginkgo nuts into the dish but it does not work well for me as the black pepper gravy was rather salty and the ginkgo nuts does not harmonize well with the entire dish.
For a long time, I have also learned from a good friend who is a licensed TCM practitioner that an adult should not ingest more than 20 ginkgo nuts a day and not more than 7 per day for a child or it will be harmful to the body and may caused ginkgotoxin poisoning.
Bay Scallop with warm Tomato Essence
I like the umami taste that the tomato essence brings to this dish and the white radish also added an extra crunch to the scallops. Simply sprinkle some sea salt to elevate the taste of the fresh scallops.
This colourful and vibrant looking bowl of seafood paella looks really promising but the rice was a little too soft and lacked flavour. Fortunately, the prawns, clams, mussels and scallops were still juicy and fresh to make the dish a welcoming one.
The turkey breast was a tad dry and tough but dipping the meat in both the coriander cucumber and pineapple salsa sauce helps to elevate the flavour of the meat. As this was a tandoori turkey, I do enjoy eating the slightly charred skin together with the meat.
Crepe Suzette with Mandarin Orange
The simple crepe suzette with mandarin orange ended my meal at Street 50 Restaurant & Bar on a sweet note. My only wish is that I can have a chance to savour the other yuletide desserts and Christmas log cakes only available from 24 December onwards.
Overall, there were a few hits and misses for me in the dishes I have tasted but at buffet prices starting at only $58 for the wide variety of mouth-watering seafood and decadent desserts certainly make this a bejewelled buffet not to be missed this Christmas.
Best of luck in winning the gorgeous GOLDHEART Diamond Jewelry set! 🙂
